If you want to save some money and taste some excellent, typical Peruvian cuisine, be adventurous and head to Restaurant Aries. Across from Ripley’s Department store, only four storefronts from the corner of Ca. Lima and Ca. Schell, family-run, Aries forms part of the pulse of Miraflores downtown. The frank simplicity—the faded mustard-yellow walls, the worn tile floors–nicely complements the authenticity of the food. Two dollars will get you the two-course menú del día. Try ceviche or papa rellena (a fried potato stuffed with ground beef, onions and olives) for the entrada, and for the main dish, you can’t go wrong with cabrito (goat meat) or picante de mariscos (shrimp, octopus and squid covered in a creamy garlic sauce).
