Most famous for its horse racing, Monterrico is one of Lima’s less touristy neighborhoods. Monterrico’s Hippodrome gets packed four days a week, hosting both national and international races, Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. There’s also a Gold Museum, Textile Museum, and Arms Museum all housed within one building. Here clothing samples over a thousand years old can be found, as well as feather capes hailing from Western Peru. Gun enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Spanish colonial firearms that are on display here.
