The area around the coastal town of Punta Hermosa, 40 kilometers (24 miles) south of Lima, is lined with numerous world-class breaks. It is no coincidence that Peruvian champ SofÃa Milanovich owns a prime location beach house here. The action begins with Caballeros, and continues south to Señoritas and into the two Punta Hermosa playas: Playa Norte and La Isla—all within a two-kilometer (1.2-mile) stretch. Water temperatures average 16ºC (61ºF).
Just past the 35-Kilometer mark of the Pan-American Highway is a rough side road that gives access to these playas. The main turn-off is at Kilometer 40. Each major beach is well-signed. Many decent and cheap restaurants, as well as basic lodging, fulfill the needs of anyone coming for the waves, or just pure relaxation.
Here are other activities in and around Punta Hermosa Beaches that may be of interest: Playa Norte & La Isla and Caballeros.
