Away from the bustle of Lima's downtown lies the green park of Plaza Bolívar, flanked by three of Lima's more interesting museums. Travel back 8,000 years as you peruse the pre-colombian artifacts at the yellow painted monolith, the Museo Nacional de Antropología, Arqueología e Historia del Perú, home to two 2,500 year old mummies recovered near the Nazca Lines and other national gems not to be missed. The private Museo Arqueológico Rafael Larco Herrera, just across the plaza, equally warrants a visit. Larco´s museum has one of the largest collections of Peruvian cultural artifacts as well as an exhibit of ancient erotic art that never ceases to amaze visitors. Don´t forget the Museum of National History, which displays art and artifacts from the colonial and republican eras.
