City Park

By David Britton

San Isidro is Peru's premier business district: Men in black suits with silk ties--cell phones in the left and briefcases in the right--scurry by in droves. Movement and chaos abound. Skyscrapers tower above, surveying the bustle below. But calmly sleeping amidst all the energy, the endless commotion, one finds Parque Combate de Altao. The park is large and square, perhaps a former plaza. The lush vegetation--the broad overhanging trees and the healthy moist fragrance of the grass--welcomes you into the park, impressing your senses. The fresh air, the roaming dogs, the feasting pigeons and the desolate jungle gym all contribute to a feeling of peace, a deep exhalation of relief. If you're in the area and need to relax, check it out.
