The complex of Complejo Belén, which was constructed from volcanic stone in the 1600s, includes an impressive and exquisite church-considered to be the best example of colonial architecture in Cajamarca-featuring fine wooden carvings and an ornate pulpit. There's also two museums, housed in buildings that used to be the men's and women's hospitals. The women's hospital, which was also once a school and then the city morgue, is now the home to the engaging Archaeological and Ethnological Museum, where you will find a number of textiles and ceramics from all over Peru.
