Half a block from Cajamarca’s Plaza de Armas, its small glass door barely noticeable if you aren’t looking for it, Om-Gri is a warm, tiny, family-run Italian restaurant. With maximum seating for 10, a menu that is one page long, and an open kitchen space behind the bar just big enough for one person to cook in, Om-Gri has a comfortable, uncomplicated atmosphere-the kind of place you can become a local in.
Friendly owner/chef Tito (affectionately known by gringo customers as “the spaghetti man”) can cook up a variety of pastas with traditional sauces like Alfredo and Bolognese, and makes mean garlic bread. Don’t be surprised, however, if half the items on the menu aren’t available-with such tiny facilities, Tito can only cook a couple of things each night.
