Chachapoyas Things to See and Do

follow us

Chachapoyas is the perfect place to use as a base to explore the Amazonas' Utcubamba River valley. Near the town are the villages of Huancas, renowned for its pottery and scenic canyons, and Levanto, home of Yalapé ruins. Ancient stone trails lead to other archaeological sites, of which Kuélap, is the most famous. The world's sixth highest waterfall, Catarata Gocta, is a must see, as it is surrounded by jungle filled with orchids and yellow-tailed woolly monkeys. In the city itself is the hub of the town's activity, the Plaza de Armas, where locals gather to chat and relax, especially in the warm evenings. There is not a huge amount of things to see within Chachapoyas-most of the attractions lie outside the city-but you will find there a couple of museums and points of interest to visit within the town as well.
