Chicalyo's money district is on Avenida Balta Sur, south of the Plaza de Armas. Here you'll find a few casas de cambio strewn among the banks. Street money changers also hang out here, though beware fake bills. The following banks change American Express travekers checks, and have ATMs that accept MasterCard, Visa, Plus and Cirrus cards:

· Scotiabank (Monday-Friday 9:15 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday 9:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Avenida Balta, between Aguirre and Izaga)—Also Western Union agent.

· Interbank (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6:15 p.m., Saturday 9:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Corner of Aguirre and Colón, ATMs on Colón)—Its GlobalNet ATM also takes American Express cards.

· Banco de la Nación is a MoneyGram outlet (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 :30 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-.1 p.m. Corner of Aguirre and Ortiz).

Phone shops are common. Most charge $0.10 for national and from $0.20 for international calls. Internet cafés are concentrated along Jirón Aguirre and Jirón San José, east of the Plaza de Armas. Many have Skype. Their average cost is $0.35 per hour. Serpost is ready to frank your letter seven days a week (Monday-Saturday 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m., Sunday 8 a.m.- 1 p.m. Jirón Aguirre 140).

Two medical facilities provide round-the-clock attention : Hospital Nacional Almanzor Aguinaga Asenjo (Calle Hipólito Unanue 180, Tel.: 23-7776) and Hospital Regional Docente Las Mercedes (Avenida Luis González 635, Tel.: 23-8232 / 23-7411). Pharmacies are all over, espcially on Avenida José Balta, north of the main plaza. Deliveries are made by Botica Arcangel (Tel.: 20-5999) and InkaFarm (20-8648).

Lavandería Burbujas as quick, reliable laundry service (daily 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. 7 de enero 639, Tel.: 27-3944. $1 per kilo).

Feria Artesanal Permanente Mi Perú is a mini mall of ten shops selling a good selection of woolens, postcards and miscellaneous knick knacks (daily 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Bolognesi 590).
