
It isn’t just all surf and sun in Huanchaco. There is a rising tide of fine art and other cultural spaces in this fishing village. GalerĂa de Arte Club Colonial (daily 1-10 p.m. Av. La Ribera 514. Tel: 461-015/471-639) has regular exhibits featuring national artists. The opening night receptions are bound to be tasteful affairs, as Club Colonial is also one of Huanchaco’s oldest up-scale restaurants.

Huanchaco’s Area Cultural has a permanent exhibit of photographs and artesanĂa, hosts cultural events and presentations, and shows a free video every Friday at 6:30 p.m. (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Libertad 204). The public library is next door.
