Climate, peak seasons, Holidays and festivals
Huanchaco has the same high season as other Peruvian coast resorts, from mid-December through March. Temperaturas—both air and sea—are warmer then. The rest of the year experiences garúa mist, especially in the morning, and has cool nights.
All of February is dedicated to the veneration of patron Saint La Virgen del Socorro. Every five years the procession carries her statue to Trujillo. The procession is accompanied by diablos (devils), chinas and virgen dances. Pre-Lent Carnaval is a big affair with flotas, parades, dances and the election of a carnaval queen. June 29 the patron Saint of fishermen, San Pedro, is meted with regattas, parades and sea ceremonias. Christmas eve is the Bajada del Niño Manuelito, accompanied by Negritos de Catumblá dances.
