Part surfer hangout, part surf school and part Mexican restaurant, Wave is the cool kids' hangout sun up to sun down. Want to learn how to paddle out, drop in and hang ten? Stop by the Wave, where a small crowd is always gathered on the patio, lounging on couches and waiting for eager surfing students.
The restaurant is located upstairs with a few tables and a small bar inside, and three tables wedged on a balcony so small you have to be really unsociable not to get to know the table next you as you bump elbows. Travelers craving a little Mexican food may have a hard time choosing what to order, as all the usual suspects, from quesadillas to tacos and enchiladas to burritos, make an appearance on the menu. Do order just one plate, however, as the portions are enormous. The waitstaff is comprised of surf instructors pulling double duty, and again, you have to be really unsociable not to strike up a conversation with these friendly guys. The wait for food seems interminable for those who walk in ready to eat, but between the chilled tunes of Jack Johnson, a small dartboard and the view of the sunset, there's plenty of distraction to increase your patience level. Open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday from noon-5 p.m.
