Máncora Services

Tourism

Máncora’s tourism office is in the city hall (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-3:45 p.m.). You can also visit www.perumancora.com for more information about Máncora hotels, restaurants and nearby attractions. The police station is on the same strip (Tel: 258-414).

Money
The only bank in town is Banco de la Nación. It changes U.S. cash dollars and is the MoneyGram agent; its ATM accepts only Visa and Plus (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.- 5:30 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Av. Piura 641). Two GlobalNet ATMs are found next to Hotel Sol y Mar and at Commercial Marlon (both on Avenida Piura). A BCP ATM that accepts most major cards is across the street from Restaurant Espada. Many bus offices and tour agencies exchange U.S. cash dollars.

Keeping in Touch
Internet and locutorios (phone offices) are common. Ushpa internet café has all services, including Skype (daily 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Av. Piura 372). There is no post office.

Medical

Máncora's public hospital is Centro de Salud Máncora (north end of Pan American highway. Tel: 258-130). On the road to the beach is an emergency health post. Many pharmacies are on Avenida Piura/Avenida Grau.

Laundry
Laundry services abound here, allowing visitors more time to enjoy the surf and sand. The English-speaking staff of Lavandería El Espumón provides two-hour service for $1.70 per kilo (Monday-Saturday 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. Av. Piura 216, Tel: 995-4812). Also try Lavandería Express, which charges $6 to wash and dry for up to 10 kilos (Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Av. Grau 123. Cel: 994-086-837).

Shopping
On the west side of the Pan-American is Máncora's original malecón. Here all types of artisans set up shop, selling everything from crocheted bikinis to palm-fiber hats to jewelry. Some, however, have sea horses and other protected species for sale. Do not purchase these.

La Caprichosa is a local collective handcrafting goat's milk-based soap with nacre, cacao and other special added ingredients (Maramoto, Panamerican Highway North. Tel: 826-8370, E-mail: ventas@maremotoperu.com, URL: www.bosquenativoperu.com).
