Because Máncora attracts local and international tourists, it also attracts the thieves. Several armed robberies have been reported on the trail that leads to the northern sector of the beach. While at the beach, take special care with any belongings and camping on the beach is not recommended.
If roughing it, and sleeping outside, be aware of the araña casera (a poisonous spider that with legs is about an inch long). It hides in vegetation and clothes, so be sure to shake out clothing and footwear before putting them on. If you have been bitten, seek medical attention.
