There are a plethora of activities available on the north coast of Peru, perhaps more so than any other region. This area is especially rich in archaeological sites. Some of the most noteworthy are the Tombs of Sipán, which were discovered in 1987 and showcases a large collection of extravagant artifacts. Another noteworthy attraction is Chan Chan, which is the ruins of the largest pre-Columbian city in South America.
Within the major cities in this area: Trujillo, Chiclayo and Piura visitors can find a variety of museums and city sites to keep them entertained. The towns all also have various markets, which are worth a visit to experience the local culture and find some goodies to take home.
If you are more into a beach scene, Máncora is the perfect place for you. This Peruvian beach town has prime surfing. It is very popular amongst the locals, giving visitors a less touristy beach experience.
