By John Howison

Tombs of Sipán — Considered to be South America's King Tut because upon discovery in 1987, it was still largely intact and full of riches, unlike most tombs which had been plundered by graverobbers.

The Museo Sicán in Ferreñafe features an elaborate reconstruction of a tomb of a Sicán royal containing, amongst other things, 20 sacrificed women and two massive golden arms.

The Citadel of Chan Chan — the ruins of the largest pre-Columbian city in South America are a must-see for those on the Northern Pacific Coast. They are a mere 5 km west of Trujillo.

Máncora — boasting the largest (if not the largest) left-hand point breaks in the world, Máncora is a prime vacation destination for Peruvians. It is busy but not overrun with tourists, giving visitors a more authentic Peruvian beach experience.
