Apart from access to the Natural Sanctuary Los Manglares de Tumbes, the National Park Cerro de Amotape, and the tropical wood National Forest of Tumbes, Tumbes has great beaches and birdwatching opportunities, and is a popular fishing spot as well.
Near the Ecuadorian border, the Tumbes National Forest, 75,000 hectare-wide, protects both flora and fauna within its dry tropical environment, including the mantled howler monkey and the jaguar and the ocelot. Indeed, it is the only legally protected forest in Peru that plays host to all endangered species in the region.
