Tumbes National Forest, which is 75,000 hectares (185,329 ac) wide, protects both flora and fauna within its dry tropical environment, including the mantled howler monkey, the jaguar and the ocelot. It is the only legally protected forest in Peru that plays host to all endangered species in the region.
