Centro Información Turística, Tumbes' tourism office, is on the second floor of Malecón Milenium (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tel: 52-1757,URL: www.tumbesinfo.com).

Another place to obtain information is DICETUR (Monday-Friday 7 :30a.m.-1 p.m., 2-4:30 p.m. Calle Bolognesi 194, Centro Cívico, 2nd floor, Tel: 52-4940 / 52-3699, URL: www.diceturtumbes.org). Other useful websites are www.peru.info/s_ftociudades.asp, www.canaturperu.org and wwwregiontumbes.gob.pe.

The National Police office has 24-hour attention (AvenidaTumbes s/n, Tel: 52-2615). If you need a visa for Ecuador, drop by that country's consulate (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-1 p.m., 2-4:30 p.m. Bolívar 155, Plaza de Armas, Tel.: 52-3022).

Most banks are located near the Plaza de Armas. The following exchange American Express travelers checks and have ATMs that handle Visa, Plus, MasterCard and Cirrus:

· Scotiabank (Monday-Friday 9:15 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday 9:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Bolognesi, Plaza de Armas)—Western Union agent.

· Interbank (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6:15 p.m., Saturday 9:15a.m.-12:30p.m. Bolívar 143-145)—Also exchanges Thomas Cooke, MasterCard, Visa, Citicorp and Citibank; ATM also accepts American Express cards.

· BCP (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Bolívar 261)—Atm also takes American Express plastic.

Various casa de cambio are found on Calle Bolívar (Paseo de los Libertadores).

Locutorios (phone providers) and internet cafés are common throughout the city. Serpost, the post office, is where you can mail one last postcard before you leave Peru (Monday-Saturday 8a.m.-8 p.m. Calle San Martín 208-210).

The main public health facility in Tumbes is Hospital de Apoyo JAMO (Calle 24 de Julio 565 and Avenida Tumbes, Tel.: 52-4775 / 52-2222 (emergency). Calle Bolívar sports many pharmacies.
