Hiking and trekking opportunities in Peru are almost endless. The most popular circuits include the Inca Trail and Lares Trek, which wind past Peru's most recognizable landmark: Machu Picchu. A number of other options exist, however, and are certainly worth strapping on the hiking boots. Huaraz, Arequipa and Cusco are great cities in which to arrange tours and guides. The hardest part of hiking in Peru, besides the knee-buckling ascents, is choosing where to go: Huascaran National Park, Cordillera Negra, Cordillera Blanca, Cordillera Huayhuash, Alpamayo, and the Sacred Valley only scratch the surface of Peruvian trails and treks.
