Peru Border Crossings

For information on entering Peru by land from Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil and Chile, see Getting To and Away from Peru by Land. For details on specific border crossings, see the relevant city.

At each border crossing you will need to show your passport in order to be given an entry stamp, which will state the number of days you are allowed to stay in Peru. See Visas for more information on entry requirements for Peru.

Border crossings are generally only open from 6 or 7 a.m. until 8 or 9 p.m., so plan your travel accordingly. A word of caution: the moment you get off your bus or step out of your taxi at the border crossing, you may encounter locals offering to "help" you with all sorts of "fees" and "taxes" you will need to pay. They will also be willing to change money for you. Use common sense and deal only with recognizable and verifiable border guards and immigration officials, and change your money only at banks or other legitimate businesses.
