There are currently 64 airports in Peru, and five major domestic airlines -- Wayra, StarPeru, Aero Condor, LAN Peru and LC Busre, all of whom fly out of Peru’s main airport, Jorge Chávez International in Lima, which is also the only international airport in Peru. As for the airports, approximately 13 receive commercial airlines; the rest serve private charter and military craft. All major tourist destinations in Peru, such as Cusco, Iquitos, Huaraz, Arequipa, Puno, and Puerto Maldonado have airports and at least one major carrier to take you there.
Some common sense rules when getting around Peru via airplane includes confirming your flight at least 72 hours in advance, getting to the airport at least three hours early, have enough cash on hand -- there are ATMs available – to pay departure and other taxes, only deal with official personal at airports – you will be hounded by so-called “helpers”, accept nothing from strangers, and keep your money and passport safe.
