V!VA User‘s Description
Due to their high-maintenance costs vis-a-via busses, there are only a limited number of trains running in Peru, but most of those are tourist-oriented, getting you to where you want to go and providing beautiful vistas along the way. Among the more popular routes are from Cusco to Machu Picchu, Lima to Huancayo, and Arequipa to Lake Titicaca, which then goes through the Urumbamba Valley to the edge of the Amazon. Tickets should be purchased at least a day in advance. The companies range from Ecomonico (which the locals take) to Pullman (the most popular with tourists) to Inca, for the wealthy.
