If you are in Carhuaz this efficient and relatively cheap hostel is adequate if you don't expect too much and can put up with one curious idiosyncrasy: there is a forty gallon container of water in every bathroom. Why? Due to a limited infrastructure, the city of Carhuaz shuts off its water supply between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. So it's the container and a bucket that will take of your ablutions and other water-related needs until the sun comes up. The owners seem to be proudly Roman Catholic, so the lobbies and hallways highlight the Sacred Virgin and the late Pope John Paul II. Still, the prices run a reasonable $5 to $10 a night, the rooms have cable TV, nice views of the surrounding valley, and the facility has 24-hour service.
