The festival for Huaraz’s patron father, el Señor de la Soledad, is the city’s large festival starting May 3 and ending May 10. It’s a week-long party in the streets. Parades display traditional colorful costumes, music and dancing. The night brings fireworks and a fiesta atmosphere, filled with drinking and celebration. The festival also includes ski races and tons of live music along with traditional Peruvian dances. People come from all over Peru to celebrate what is referred to as both the Festival de Mayo or the Festival del Señor de la Soledad.
