Hiking, Trekking, Climbing
V!VA User‘s Description
This visually astounding and physically accessible trek starts from Olleros, a small village located a few kilometers south of Huaraz. The three-day hike to the spectacular fortress temple of Chavín de Huantar (800 BC) follows a pre-Columbian trail—once an ancient trade route—that cuts through the mountains on its way up and over Punta Yanashallash at 4,700 meters. Depending on your level of fitness (or your desire to carry your own pack) you can choose to hire a burro to carry your equipment. The trek can usually be completed in three to four days.
