Huaraz, Peru

Restaurant Types:
Breakfast, Coffee shop

By Ricardo Segreda

Ten years old, California Café has long become a Hauraz institution for foreign travelers and adventurers. Come in, put down your backpack, grab a paperback, and relax in one of its wicker chairs or comfy sofas. Manager Tim Norris has recreated the look and feel of a Berkeley bohemian hang-out, complete with a wide selection of coffee and tea (as well as chai tea). He and his wife, Louisa, prepare an awesome breakfast and lunch menu, including large and fluffy pancakes to fuel you up for your next trek or bike tour around the Cordillera Blanca. Open everyday until 6 p.m., this is one of the best places to meet other travelers and share stories and information.

Traveler Reviews of

The best atmosphere in town

Rating: 100%

Friendly stuff, a lot of information to find and share with others. Large library with a lot of Cordilierra Blanca related books. Great coffee that gives you a poke in the eye. Great desayuno. Perfect.

Regarding the California Café

Rating: 100%

Tim and Louisa do a great job; hanging out at the C.C. is a mini-vacation of sorts.
