The glacier-toped Cordillera Blanca is the main climbing and hiking center of Peru. Mountain biking, horseback riding, river rafting and canoeing are also popular activities in this area. Most tours are multi-day and all should include gear, food, transportation and guides.
If you plan to book a tour locally, head to Llanganuco where you can acclimatize as you hunt for the best deal. International tour operators also offer tours of this magnificent peak.
The park is best during the dry months from May – September. Wet season the rest of the year can make outdoor activities difficult.
WARNING: Be alert to the threat of avalanches and mudslides before setting out to the mountains or taking trips in the area. Check locally to find out which areas should be avoided.
