Noticeably devoid of snow, the brown mountains of the Cordillera Negra provide a sharp contrast to the snow-covered peaks of the neighboring Cordillera Blanca. This mountain range offers some great hiking and biking opportunities, in addition to inspiring views of the surrounding scenery.
Many of the tracks for exploring this area have been used for centuries, and wind their way past remote Andean villages and agricultural fields. Mountain bikers can test their skills on a range of trails, from easy, broad treks to hold-onto-your-helmet, narrow downhill slopes.
Regardless of how you choose to tackle this mountain range, the views are sure to please even the most discerning adventurers. You can access the Cordillera Negra via a number of dirt roads leading from Huaraz and other towns throughout the Río Santa Valley, such as Yungay, Caraz, Huallanca and Carhuaz.
