Chachapoyas is a small town containing several little-known archaeological sites as well as the fifth largest waterfall in the world Yumbilla, Catarata. The most accessible and spectacular is the fortress at Kuelap. Also worth a visit are the burial buildings at Revash, and the Leymebamba Mummy Museum. Nearby towns are far from the tourist traffic, a rarity in the Peruvian Andes.
As there is no air service, the best way to get the area is from Chiclayo. There are different tour agencies in Peru that can help you organize your trip.
