Getting to and away from Jalca Grande

From Chachapoyas, a combi leaves Monday-Saturday at 1400 from Jr. Hermosura, near Jr. Salamanca (10 soles / $3.30 US; 4 hours), passing through Tingo at 1500-1530 and the Ubilón crossroad at 1600-1630. To Chachapoyas, the combi leaves La Jalca at 0430. From Leymebamba, catch the Celendín-La Jalca truck as it passes through on Friday, or a truck from the Sunday market in Yerbabuena (until 122-1300). Otherwise, go to Ubilón and await the combi or walk (3 hours uphill). Saturday between 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. a truck leaves Jalca Grande for Rioja and Moyobamba. Sunday at 8 a.m. another leaves for Yerbabuena, Leymebamba and Celendín.
