This hostel, where you could traditionally ask permission to stay, presently is not available to the general public, as it is the base camp of Proyecto Especial Kuélap, working on the excavation and restoration of the site. Hopefully the albergue will reopen in 2008. However, you can inquire at the ticket office for opportunities to lodge with a local family in their home (many families have a spare room they let) or ask where to pitch your tent (be prepared for rain and mud).
