Guesthouse

By Lorraine Caputo

This ecological-cultural inn, owned by the family of archaeologist Arturo Ruiz Estrada, offers six basic rooms, each with two beds. It is a typical country-style house of unpainted adobe, red-tiled roof, dirt floor and center courtyard garden. There is no electricity; candles are provided. There is also the option to camp. Currently there is only an outhouse and throw-water "shower," but there are plans to install bathrooms in the main building. Upon arriving at Kuélap, ask for José Alba, who runs the hostel.
