Getting to and away from Kuélap

Transportation
Tours to Kuélap from Chachapoyas cost up to 75 soles/$25. Alternatively, take the daily Transporte Roller (Jr. Grau and Salamanca) service to Kuélap (4 a.m.; 15 soles/$5; 3 hours); buy tickets the night before. Another combi leaves at 3 p.m. from the gas station on Libertad.
From Leymebamba, go to Tingo, then by colectivo to Nuevo Tingo (1 sol/$0.30); await the combi from Chachapoyas (5 a.m., 4 p.m.; 8 soles/$2.60). Or from Tingo, climb the steep trail (3-4 hour up, 1½-2 hours down; horses, 20-25 soles/$6.60-8.30).
María to Kuélap is 1½-2 hour walking, or 1 sol/$0.30 in a cab.
