By Lorraine Caputo

Lámud is yet a small village. Extensive chacras hide behind adobe walls and roosters crow in the pre-dawn hours. Days of walking to explore this area await you. Nearby there are 29 archaeological sites, including Karajía and Pueblo de los Muertos. Natural wonders also abound: Quiocta Caverns, Huaya Belén River serpentining through a verdant valley and numerous waterfalls. The patron saint of Lámud is El Señor de Gualamita, whose feast days are celebrated 11-14 September. On 13 September is Hatún Luya, a meeting of the villages of Luya province to share dances and traditions.
