Huánuco Churches

Historical Building

By Amanda Massello

The city of Huánuco, founded in 1539, was part of an important cultural movement during the colonial era. One can see this evidenced in the intricate architecture of the city’s many churches--La Catedral, la Iglesia San Francisco, la Iglesia de Cristo Rey, la Iglesia de la Merced and la Iglesia San Cristóbal—displaying neoclassical, baroque and romantic styles.
