V!VA User‘s Description
The towns are all relatively small, and since there seems to be a correlation between big cities and crime, the towns and villages in the Southern Peruvian Andes are all pretty safe. When traveling on the buses, make sure to always keep an eye on your personal belongings. Your things under or on top of the bus will be fine, but keep your daypack close. Crowded buses present the most problems, as pickpockets have an easier time when everyone is squished together. In general though, simply take common-sense precautions and you shouldn’t have any safety issues.
