Huancayo has one of the highest crime rates in Peru: locals attribute it to gang activity. Take a little extra care.
The Sunday Market is fantastic: if passing through, be sure to plan some time on a Sunday to explore it.
Rainy season in Huancayo lasts from October to March. From April to September it is usually quite pleasant.
In Huancayo, "Panchamanca" is a feast saved for special occasions. Meaning "fruits of the earth," it is created by placing meats and vegetables underground with hot rocks. You may be able to find it at some restaurants.
