Huancahuasi restaurant, featuring two locations (one in Lima, the other in Huancayo) offers an intriguing mixture or traditional Andean food such as the Piqueo Huancahuasi (guinea pig, fried pork and potatoes) and newer creations such as the Coctel de trucha (“trout cocktail”) sort of a shrimp cocktail, but made with trout. They unabashedly cater to tourists, but locals do eat there as well. One of their specialties is a traditional breakfast, every day from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.: early risers looking for a huge breakfast before a packed day might want to check them out. For lunch on Saturdays and Sundays, they offer a traditional "pachamanka," which is a sort of feast prepared by filling a hole in the ground with burning charcoal before adding meat and vegetables and letting the whole mixture steam and cook for a while.
Open daily (except Tuesdays) from 8 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, they are open until midnight and feature noches andinas, with traditional music.
