Ayacucho Services

Keep in mind that long lunches are usually taken in Ayacucho around 1-3 p.m., so be prepared as many stores close daily during this time.

Tourism

Portal Municipal 45, or the Huamanga City Hall, is home to the Ayacucho tourist office, which is on the Plaza de Armas (Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tel: 318-305). The friendly employees will happily give you great information as well as maps and brochures of Ayacucho and most other towns in Peru. There is also a tourist information booth in the airport for those flying in. Sede Central Policía Nacional del Perú is located at Jirón 28 de Julio 325 (312-055/316-245; open 24 hr); the number for emergencies is 105. There is also a tourism police station at Jirón Dos de Mayo 100 (Tel: 317-846).

Money

The streets lining Plaza Mayor are where the majority of banks, ATMs and currency exchange booths are located. BBVA Banco Continental (Portal Unión 24 and Jr. 9 de Diciembre) has multiple ATMs, which accept Visa and Plus cards. Banco de Crédito ATMs are further down on Portal Unión and accept Visa, Master Card, American Express, Maestro and Plus cards.

There are numerous Internet cafés along the street Portal Constitución, one of the largest being Internet el Huego, at Portal Constitución 9. El Huego offers 15 computers, copy machine, faxes, CD, DVD, MP3 and MP4 burning, and four international and domestic Movistar calling booths. For more copies services, try Jirón 28 de Julio near Calle Corcovado, an entire block of copy stores where a copy runs for about $0.05 each. One of the only services not available in the plaza is the post office, Serpost El Correo del Peru, which is located on Jirón Asamblea 295 (daily 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m.).

Medical

Hospital Regional Ayacucho is located at Avenida Independencia 355 (Tel: 312-180, URL: www.hospitalayacucho.org) and can take care of any medical emergencies. The Mifarma is a well-stocked pharmacy at Calle Portal Constitución 02-03.

Laundry

Arco Iris is a laundromat at Jirón Bellido 322 that provides dry cleaning and drop off washing. Laundry service is done within 24 hours, but sometimes longer, so plan ahead.
