Cerrito de la Libertad - City Walk Huancayo - Peru

El Cerrito de la Libertad, also known as El Mirador, is a small hill from which the entire city of Huancayo can be seen. This is the spot where Ramón Castilla, a military leader and president of the Republic of Peru in the mid-1800s, defeated General José Rufino Echenique during the Revolution of 1854, declaring Huancayo the governmental seat. The hill also features a small recreation area with a children's playground, swimming pools, and a small, somewhat battered zoo (animal lovers might want to skip it). From downtown, it is an easy one-kilometer (0.6 mi) walk to get to Cerrito de la Libertad.
