Wali Wasi - Culture And Arts Huancayo - Peru

Wali Wasi (House of Spirits) is the home of Pedro Marticorena Oroña Laya, a laya, or traditional Andean priest or shaman, and serves as his studio and gallery as well as a meeting place for other laya. The paintings and sculptures throughout Wali Wasi's rooms and courtyard are based on his visions, and are strikingly different in style as if created by several different people. “I have many people speaking through me,” he explains of these contrasts. Pedro executes his works not only with traditional materials like paint and wood, but also with plants, earth and dung. While at Wali Wasi, besides meeting Pedro and viewing his artwork, you may be able to arrange a coca-leaf reading for yourself or take Quechua lessons. On the physical plane, you may be journeying only to the outskirts of Huancayo, but on a spiritual plane, you definitely enter another world on a visit to Wali Wasi.
