Sunday Market (Feria Dominical) - Shopping Huancayo - Peru

The largest outdoor market in Peru, Feria Dominical, is what puts Huancayo on the tourist radar. Every Sunday beginning at sun rise, one of the largest streets in town, Av. Huancavelica is closed off to road traffic and hundreds of street vendors from all over the central highlands come to sell their goods. Live animals, Peruvian artisan crafts, local food and clothing are on offer. The market does not only sell locally made goods, many stalls sell electronics, baby clothes and DVDs just like at the Mercado Mayorista. Vegetables, herbs and spices can also be bought in balk. Be prepared to walk, as the market goes for blocks and lasts all day. If by chance you are not in Huancayo on a Sunday, try the Casa del Artesano on Calle Real and Av. Giraldez, open daily from . And 4-10 p.m.
