Pucallpa is one of Peru’s fastest-growing cities, a workaday port where the riches of the Amazon basin are transferred to Lima and beyond. While it might lack the fame and reputation of Iquitos, the jungle’s second city has less of a touristy-feel. Indeed, in a visit to Pucallpa, you will probably will not see another foreigner.

Pucallpa also serves as the gateway to Yarinacocha, which is the big draw for most of the visitors arriving to Pucallpa. Yarinacocha is an oxbow lake, ringed by wildlife-rich forests and indigenous communities. Pucallpa is also the place to catch the river boats to Iquitos.

Other places nearby Pucallpa : Yarinacocha , Tingo Maria and Chanchamayo.
