The Hotel Real Iquitos is a venerable Iquitos institution. Built more than 50 years ago, what was once an elegant, upscale hotel right on the river is now somewhat run-down and quirky. The rooms vary greatly in size and price—be sure to look at several before you choose. The best ones are enormous and have a balcony and a good view of the river and even a balcony. The interior rooms are more gloomy but less expensive. Perfect for those who prefer history and uniqueness to comfort and luxury. It ain’t the Ritz—at least not anymore—but for some, that’s the whole point, right?
