The Hotel Real Iquitos is a venerable Iquitos institution. Built more than 50 years ago, what was once an elegant, upscale hotel right on the river is now somewhat run-down and quirky. The rooms vary greatly in size and price--be sure to look at several before you choose. The best ones are enormous and have a good view of the river and even a balcony. The interior ones are more gloomy but less expensive. Perfect for those who prefer history and unqueness to comfort and luxury. It ain't the Ritz--at least not anymore--but for some, that's the whole point, right?
