In the jungle south of Moyobamba lie some of Peru’s best hot springs. Baños Termales San Mateo has six pools with medicinal waters registering 36-43ºC (97-109ºF), guaranteed to restore your body after months of travelling. The shaded grounds also have two large, fresh-water pools to cool off and swim, as well as a playground and sporting fields. The best time to come for a relaxing soak is 5-10 a.m., when the waters are cleaner and before the crowds of school kids arrive.
