Puerto Maldonado Obelisk

Location:
Avenida Madre de Dios and Fitzcarraldo
Puerto Maldonado, Puerto Maldonado, Peru

City Plaza

By Ricardo Segreda

Someone, somewhere came up with the idea of building a five-story-high obelisk in downtown Puerto Maldonado, giving both locals and visitors an opportunity to take in the vast and verdant Peruvian jungle from a unique perspective. The tower itself is an eyesore, but the view from the top is breathtaking. Entrance is an inexpensive 2 soles, or $0.70. Sometimes the elevator works, and sometimes it doesn't; you are better off walking up the steps in any case.

Getting There
