Located deep in Peru’s Tambopata National Reserve, Sandoval Lake Lodge sits on the shores of sparkling, palm-rimmed Sandoval Lake. The oxbow lake’s immediate area is rich with bird and wildlife, including macaws, monkeys, caimans and giant otters. You have access to the lake at dawn and dusk, prime hours for wildlife viewing and photography. Sandoval Lake Lodge is operated by the non-profit conservation organization InkaNatura Travel and five local indigenous families. It offers two to four-day packages, including lake, forest and night excursions, as well as evening slide shows, for small groups and families. The lodge boasts 25 double rooms with private bath, hot-water showers, screens, fans and electricity. Prices include round-trip transportation from Puerto Maldonado airport, meals, purified beverages, bilingual naturalist guide, all excursions and the Tambopata National Reserve entrance fee.
