The Peruvian Amazon Basin abounds with activities catering to nature enthusiasts. Also, since this part of Peru isn't as touristy, the activities here tend to have a more authentic feel. The region's biggest attractions are the large protected nature reserves dotting the area and the astounding diversity of flora and fauna within them. Besides the allure of the reserves, the major towns in the region contain ethnographic museums, floating artisan markets, botanical gardens and butterfly conservation centers, while their outskirts overflow with waterfalls, lush landscapes and river activities. Some of the more unique opportunities include visiting a medieval European castle, touring a cigar-rolling factory and exploring a bat cave.
